Oulton Broad Club Meeting - 05/07/2012

After a few weeks of frustration the Area 31 Racing Team returned to winning ways by taking the Mike Snowling Memorial Shield on a perfect evening at Oulton Broad. The 1973 500cc Konig engine decided to behave itself and a first , second and third was enough to give the team overall top spot.

Race 1

the first race got underway with Danny Mardon, Jason Freeman, Jason Lark and James Marr starting on thier own handicap times, all in 400cc OSY outfits.

Area 31 Racing team driver David Jones was next into the race on 1 minute 30 seconds with the 1973 500cc Konig powered classic 'Cabover' hydroplane along with Mark White in the 500cc powered hydrocat.

As David put some distance between himself and Mark White early on he soon unlapped himself and started chasing the OSY 400cc outfits down as the race entered its final stages. On the last lap David was able to catch, pass and take the lead from James Marr up the back straight and powered the 1973 500cc Konig outfit to victory in the first heat with Mark White coming second and James Marr finishing third

Race 2

With an extra ten seconds addded to his handicap David once again shew his experience as he carved his way through the field unlapping himself and set about catching the slower OSY 400cc outfits.

The extra ten seconds proved to be a little too much as this time David had to settle for second place behind Jason Freeman with Jason Lark finishing in third place after James Marr was docked

a lap for starting early.

Race 3

The final race had to be restarted after first a swan invaded the course and secondly Mark White in the 500cc Hydrocat started sinking.

On the restart David was handicapped a further ten seconds despite not winning race 2 and entered the race on 1 minute 50 seconds.

Once again despite using all his experience around Oulton Broad, powering the 1973 500cc restored hydroplane to some impressive 40 second lap times it was just too much to catch and make up the handicap on the leaders, as David brought the Area 31 Racing outfit home in third place behind James Marr and Danny Marden.

A first, second and third place overall was enough for team driver David Jones to take the overall win for the Area 31 Racing Team and take home the Mike Snowling Memorial Shield for the second year running.
